I am bringing the vocalist back into the studio to re-record the vocal tracks for reasons that will become obvious when you listen to the original take, however, I am curious if anybody has any thoughts of what I might try to make the singers voice stand out a bit more? Also what do you think of the mix and song in general?
:)
Thanks

I dunno if you're familiar with the band Morcheeba, but that vocalist is the spitting image.

I'd kill a bit of the reverb on the vox, or atleast kill some of the hi end on the reverb...it's starting to give you sibilance problems, nothing major tho.

Very soothing

Yeah I think the reverb is a bit much as well. It's kind of overwhelming and gives it a cheap quality to me.

Just make sure the singer pays attention to her pitch; she's flat quite a bit.

Other than that, it sounds pretty good. Good job.

Cool to both you and Lemon Tree on the Reverb. I will work with that and improve on the sound. As far as the singer. I could not agree more! In fact, she is driving me nuts!!!! Constantly asking for retakes etc. I just want to scream "Look, you haven't gotten right the first 30 times, what makes you think your going to get it right the 31st!!!!" Oh well... Such is life
Again thanks to you and LemonTree
:)

use the old engineer's push..get her in the booth and say...imagine you were gonna die in 5 minutes and this is the take everyone's gonna remember you for....usualy works for me ;)

Geez. talk about pressure!!! Does that really work? :)

Well, I did not quite say this is it, but I did put some pressure on her and it helped. :D A little, but some is better than none. I will post the re-mix without so much reverb in a couple of days.

When you see people throwing money into a bottomless pit it's sometimes good to help them out with a little guidance.

I wish I could say she was actually spending the money  She is one of the members of the band I play in and she really wanted to do this demo so I told her I would help her out. She does, however, need some guidance. I wish I were a vocal coach sometimes becuase she does sing flat as well as other things that drive me nuts.
