Re-born Boogie

At least I hope I breathed a lil life in the dark, muddy tune. It's a John Lee Hooker style Boogie.

I EQed it and added just a touch more verb using Power Tracks Pro 7 Demo. Then I bounced it back to this puter.

It was originally recorded on a Tascam 424 MKIII and we are still working on the final mix.

Nice blues stuff. I can't hear anything in the left side. Only center and right. You could have put the guitar solo left. The quality is a bit muddy, but it's understandable for a demo.

The groove is good, and the singing works. Somehow this sounds funny, since I've never heard a gospel boogie before. I guess there's a first for everything, and didn't blues evolve from gospel anyway, so this is like a full circle or something. Despite the title, this doesn't sound like a standard preaching Jesus song. Maybe it's because it grooves like hell, so it's so uplifting. And the lyrics are pretty few anyway.

The song gets really repetitive, but that's not unusual for a blues tune, so you're excused.

Hey Cranky! Thanks for the review and the suggestions.

Yes, Da Blues origianted from Black Spiritual songs and field hollers. Actually, there's alot of Christian Blues out there and it's one of the things that brought me back to playing music after being out of it for 20 years.

I have never heard anything spiritual quite like this before. I am a fan of John Lee and Elmore so I really like this one. Its got a great Thorogood vibe going.

Hey man, I appreciate the review and I'm glad you liked it.

As I said above, there's alot of Christian Blues based bands around but we are trying to do something a little different cause they are generally pretty traditional in their approach to doing the Blues. My sidekick, Jeff, is a huge fan of the old Blues players whereas I like the Progressive Blues and Blues Rockers of the late 60's and early 70's. (Clapton, Johnny Winter, Billy Gibbons, Leslie West, etc) So, when ya put those things together you have two different era's coming together.

I think you've captured the"essence" in which you where going for. The medium is a little hissy..but ok when everything is kicked in. I agree on the thorogood vibe. Lead could come up, imo.
 
Vox sound much better than the last version. I will concur with mixmkr on the hiss and lead comments. None the less, an improvment has been achieved.

I must add Muddy Waters,Buddy Guy, Lonnie Mack and Roy Buchanan to that 70's progressive blues list:)

Well, I found out what the "Hiss" came from. It seems my freakin fridge cut on bout time I bounced it back to the this puter. It's not on the other puter. I also found as per Cranky One's review where he couldn't hear anything on the left. The balance on the Windows Volume controls were all slightly to the right. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm Younguns!!!

Thanks Bro for the listen. Glad I was able to do something for it without the basic tracks.

The final mix is due tomorrow night along the the final on several other tunes for the Demo.

We worked hard on this, our first Homecooked Recording and we made some dumb mistakes with the Tascam 424 MKIII such as not panning correctly while recording all Four Tracks at once. It's the same proceedure as my 414 MKII but someone had told Jeff different and the guy was supposed to be an "Expert" and Jeff is not one to RTFM. (Read The Freakin Manual) We had some serious probs with track bleedover as a result.

We are learning alot from all you guys. Thanks alot!!!

Muddy wasn't "ol' school" he was his "own school";) I.E. Electric Mud.

I really dig your blues. I love the genre but, can't come close to playing blues.
