Re-amping with Tascam US1800??

So I have read up some on re-amping and I'm wondering if a re-amp box is necessary when using the US1800. Could the balanced line outs on the back of the 1800 be used instead of a re-amp box? Maybe those aren't line level? Just wondering if re-amping could be done without buying more gear.

I have had a good result once by using a few adapters and a CP8201 Mic Impedance Matching Transformer. Cost about $30 to get there. It worked well with one amp, and failed quite miserably with another.

Only way to know is to try. Though an Xamp box will give you the ability to adjust the output level.

I'm assuming then that the line outs on the Tascam won't do it?

Try it and see. You may be able to reduce the level in your DAW enough.

If not, maybe play with the Monitor or Headphone outs since you have front panel level adjustment for those--since you'll be going balanced (or stereo) out to a mono instrument amp in, you'll likely want to cheat and push the jack in only as far as the first click.

I stress I don't own a US 1800 so have never actually tried any of this but it sounds like an interesting project.

It just depends on the amp you are sending it to I guess. You won't damage anything by trying. Just give it a shot and see. :)

That I will do and let you know how it works. Might not get to it soon, but will definitely try.
