Hello Folks,
Here's the rework I promised. Kim's vox are up & Terry's are down a little. I've also dealt with some of the clunky bits.
I cleaned all the vocal tracks in waverepair but could fully address the hiss/whine thing as I don't have an EQ precise enough - & filtering overdid it with a broad brush too.
Let me know if it's an improveemnt or otherwise.
Oh, this link is to a download as, after 1 2/2 hrs, 6 resets etc I gave up trying to get it onto soundclick.

Jsayer2,
thanks for the comments I've been looking into the noise problem - it may be a little better on this version.
True,
Thank you kind lady. I'll take a look at that transition point & see what can be done.
Folk,
Is this version an improvement?
I still can't get anything onto sclick - my connection times out or resets. Is this a common experience of late with s/click?

This is a very good improvement, Ray.
Kim's voice is clearly audible now. The instruments have a nice level. The only thing with an inconsistent level is Terry's voice, maybe compression or automation could help there. Really nice performance overall!

Joey :):):):)

I like the hiss in this version - makes it sound like something rescued from the archives :D Kim's voice evokes the Pixies for me in a very good way (there are both good and bad ways to remind me of them :) ). Not the song - just the voice and vocal phrasing. A little. Her voice sounds very good.

It may be my system (listening on the cheap monitors at the moment), but I want to cut the low mids a little, but not a big deal.

Flute sounds *great*

Definitely adding this one to the local mix.

Around 1:45 you have two guitar notes (one on each side) that really stand out. They're almost 4 dB louder than the next loudest parts of the song.

Oh I get the burying the vox at the end! It's a song about parting, and he's leaving!

Near the end, there was a high pitched hiss; it was pretty distracting.

More Kim definitely improved this.

Has a folksy feel to it, doesn't it... Man... I'm not quite sure how to critique this one.

There seems to be a few pitch problems with the vocals. Nothing major, but in parts, it seems like it's a bit flat.

I really like the flute. Very authentic-sounding, and well recorded, in my opinion.

The transition which happens when the cello enters could be a bit smoother. I can't quite put my finger on it, but there's just a bit of jumpiness to the otherwise very smooth nature of the song when the cello comes in.

Keep it up!

Much much better! Now Kim's vocals really envelope the background nicely as backups should. Not sure if the doubling / panning would be necessary anymore....but keep it in mind.... Kim - you have a lovely voice ! :D

I like the sound on the instruments, I'd like more verb on the vox for this kind of music, wich I really like:cool:

Some more compression or automation on The male voice is needed as mentioned, is that a tin whistle  awsome:cool:

That chello thing in the end sounds awsome.

as mentioned I really like the song, I'd like some more prescene in the vox, pluss some more verb one the vox:)

nice work ray

I'm not sure about the verb on Terry's vocals...it's very up fron tnow which is nice. Matter of taste really.....

Thanks folks,
I'll tweak on the coming weekend & repost.
You folk shoudl hear the cool job Greg did with a little home mastering magic. - Man, he has ears for that sort of job.
I'll address the roughish intro of the outro, re-automate the vocal to address uneven vol.,(I lost some of the previous automation when I exported and partially claned the vocal track) and follow Greg's directions re the whine (it's a hard yard for me as I can't hear it so have to get a feq shot - treat it, get a new freq shot to see if it worked, undo re adjust etc until I can't see the problem as I CAN'T HEAR IT!!!!!! - it's insane - the freq I can't hear if the freq that terry's old set up inserted into his recordings - Murphy's Law I suppose). PI- is it the male vocal or female vocal that has the pitch issue?
Big secret - the FLUTE on this track is actually a recorder!!!!!!
You should see the two notes on the wav graphic - massive - but I can't decide whether I want to keep that or reduce it.

My biggest nit is waiting 45 seconds for the damn download to start.

Pretty cool Ray, that vocal balance is a lot better now.

Bullshit,
Thanks mate - sorry about the delay. I keep trying to get it up on soundclick as an easy streamer but I keep getting a reset & time out message.
Now, I've found soome essing I want to deal with BUT Spitfish crashes my computer. I'll have to find a similarly good but free plug.

Cool. Don't think I've ever listened to one of your tunes in WMP before...got the eq and everything!

Good to hear the background vocals more. I find the lead vocals to be a bit boomy and dry for my tastes, but who knows. An improvement to be sure, but further tweaking could help...and somehow I think you will continue to tweak. :)
