hey, I just formed a band with a few good friends, we recorded a little demo in my garage....we're all 15 years old and with the exception of myself (drums), we're all fairly new to our instruments...we don't have a singer yet but i'm just looking for some feedback on the song and how to get more out of the recording equipment i have...

the stuff used to record this:

Behringer Eurorack MX 1604A mixer
Audiophile 24/96 sound card
3 Audix F-12 mics (snare, and everything else) and one F-10 (kick)
pretty decent XLR cords
a so so computer running cool edit pro

as you can see, it's not exactly high budget equipment, I was looking for some tips on what you hear wrong with the mix or the sound (like overmodulation or something)...thanks very much

and by the way, make sure you listen to the outro!!

I agree with Charva about the drums. They're bottoming out on my headphones. Bass guit at 1:17 is also muffled (maybe for effect, maybe by mistake). If by mistake, I think it may be too much low end. Maybe try cutting that in eq? If it's for effect, I'd bring it up more in the mix dynamically.

I like the way you panned the two axes at the outtro. I would try panning the rack toms separately for the intro fill. I bet that would be cool.

Last thing, I don't know what you've got going in the background for that outtro, but it sounds like a phone's ringing at 2:36. Very subtle but I'm hearing something....

Yeah it's too hot, this was the first thing I recorded when I bought this equipment and I was (and am still) pretty new to digital recording--my main experience with meters is with taping things and with analog, you want to have your levels right below the red, I didn't realize this is untrue of digital--my newer demos have sounded alot less distorted and much more cleaner after i figured this out ;)
 
I'd love to listen but I can't seem to get there from here.

The red is just higher up in the digital world. I do like to "peg it" (nothing over-0.03) into the yellow. Anything more is crap.

Nice recording though. I like the laid back instrumental. Real raw sounding, I mean that in a good way. I love the changes.
