Let me know your thoughts!

great stuff! really like it!

some good performances in their and the vocals are great too...the whole mix is pretty clear...it sounds a little high in the HFs and could stand a little more low frequencies, but this sounds like it was mixed by someone who knows what hes doing and not an amateur mixer like myself

whats the background story? equipment used?

Yeah it sounded real good. Things are nice and clear. Guitars and vocals sound great.

The only thing I would suggest is that there seems to be a low end rumble. I think it's on the kick.

Oh yeah, I purposely enhanced the sub lows to get that rumble - imo its elements like a ridiculous amount of sub bass that emphasize the juvenile-ish sound of the band's writing and lyrics. Almost like "we did this wrong on purpose, 'cause we like insane amounts of bass".

Background story is a bunch of cool high school kids walked into my studio and rocked out! The last studio did a TERRIBLE job of recording them, they were practically in tears of joy by the end of our session.

Here's pictures of the whole thing: facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.292983444084331.61876.144676878914989&type=3

Equipment used includes:
Zed R-16 (every mic was run into a Zed R-16 preamp, no off-board used. Zed R-16 preamps are actually awesome though.)
Sm57 for all drums (only mic'd tops. I knew I was replacing the snare off the bat, so no bottom mic necessary)
Some crappy Nady pencil overheads... I wish I had NT5s haha. Whatever, they work!
And a couple cheap LDC for room mics. One's an ART M-three, the other is some cheap Apex thing.
Sm7B for all vocals. <3

You want to get good at mixing? Record everything with that ^.

I replaced the snare with a sample of a pearl masters snare that my friend made. If anyone wants the DL link I can get it to 'em. It's free. For rolls I blended in the real microphone, gradually switching to the sampled snare as they built up.
I replaced the toms with my "space wolf" toms. You can get em off my site for $5 if you want em. SignalsAudio.com.
Replaced the kick with my JayMac kick sample.

Any more questions? :D

thanks for that...I gathered it was a bit more than a homerecording but helps with some solid performances

Id like the snare DL link if you got it going...can never have too many snare samples :)

Here's where you can get the snare sample I used there. 395recordingstudio.weebly.com/products.html

I also have a killer free snare sample if you want another one. Scroll to the bottom. signalsaudio.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout=blog&id=8&Itemid=10

Sounds good. The guitars are really nice and blend into the bass well to have that low mids meat. The cymabls straight away sounded a bit on the high end side, did you hi pass most of the OHs? I would lay off the 12k upwards area a tiny tiny tad on the OHs, and the vocals get lost here and there, so some light volume automation to make the vocals more easy to notice at times would be great, maybe even bring the main vocals up 1.5dB also.

What was your guitar signal path?

Good stuff.

This sounds pretty damn good to me on a pair of crappy BX5A's... I'd also love to know your guitar chain as far as recording and processing once you were in the daw!

The only thing that stood out to me (in a negative way) was the "dont turn it down" line right at the beginning of the song, I feel like the doubled backup part that sounds a bit distorted is a tiny bit too obtrusive, but overall it sounds pretty solid!

Good performance and good job on the recording Signals. I think you could do with more on the low end to give the song a little more beef - I love the Check Your Head era Beastie Boys though where they had a really fat low end sound so may just be personal taste here.

This sounded really, really good. The vocals blended in perfectly in my opinion. If anything the bass guitar could need a little more body, but overall great work. I'm impressed.
