Range Parameter On Gates

I have recently purchased an 01V96 mixing desk which has an internal gate on each channel. I know what the threshold, attack, hold and decay parameters do but there is also a parameter called range which is set in decibels (like threshold).

Any suggestions will be gratefully received.

Range might be the decibels of reduction that occur when the gate closes.

Just an idea, I don't really know for sure.
 
Thanks mate i think you've solved it. I still cant work out what the axis of the graph are though. It all seems a bit weird to me.

Ha ha no i dont have a dog. But if i had he might just as well have. Im not getting on with the manual to well it jumps around all over the place and frequently ignores how the other areas of the mixer might be set up and assumes you already know some info. The box should have a waning - from 6-10 years experience up lol.
