Okay, so I just got my new Alesis IO|26 firewire interface.. I am running into a problem regardless of what I do, monitoring recording or playback.. My computer randomly pauses for a second or two during any and all of the above processes.. I don't understand what it could be as my computer is pretty solid, 2GB ram(I had three GB, but was told running mismatched sticks may cause more problems), Intel Core 2 Duo, 5400RPM HDD. Any ideas on what I could do to rid myself of this.

BTW, no pops clicks etc are apparent.

If after after making sure

- you have no TSRs running (virus checkers, anti-spyware, etc.),
- that your HDs are defragged OK,
- that you have enough RAM and HD cache enabled,
- that your HD is the primary/master device on your EISA/ATA chain, and that, if possible, you move any second EISA device to the second chain

you still have the problem, then you probably want to upgrade to a 7200RPM drive because your 5400 just can't keep up with the data stream rate. I'm suprised they still make/use 5400RPM, to be honest. For some reason I thought those went the way of the CRT a while ago.

I don't know what to say, I did everything you mentioned to no avail..

I know another guy who is running a Presonus Firepod on a similar laptop as I have and he is doing just fine.. Got any other ideas?

The problem is the crappy Alesis drivers not the computer.

Are you saying from experience or what?

I have installed the latest firmware and drivers twice, thinking a bad install may have occurred to begin with.. Once again, to no avail.

Damn, now I don't know if I should get rid of it or wait on a new fix...

The place I bought it from said they take 9% out for a restocking fee..
