yeah, dont take everything i said as a negative though, i do think the song could really take off and have more violence with a couple variations or something. I used
a HR16 for about a year. Glad to hear youre trying other options.
So are you recording on the PC also?
I do a few things seperate from the computer. I think that if everything is done in that realm then recordings seem to get stale. I do some programming, and then Ill actually play some parts to help give it a more human feel.
My set up if youre curious:
900mhz HP with WinME and FruityLoops installed
Akai DPS16
Softsynths
ROland Juno
Rode NT1
Presonus Pre
Alesis Compressor
Gibson SG - its the only guitar i use
With this i can make sounds like this song:

feel free to give it a listen. People seem surprise at some of the thick sounds i get out of my not-so-advanced setup
....but to make this your thread, I think you should try to mix up things you record. Like if you have good latency with your computer, record the snare on a seperate track, like i think you said you did, but actually record it in real time with you hitting the midi controller or whatever controls the samples in your program. I just think this kind of stuff is helpful in reproducing more looser (non-machine like) programs.
Hope i can help. Good luck
