Heard this on my Sirrius radio the other day...haven't heard it in years and thought it would be fun to try a cover...kinda going from memory and downloaded guitar tab so the order/lyrics may be goofed up .. It only came out to 1:49 so I'm probaly missing a verse or chorus, but most songs by the Ramones were pretty short and to the point!

Beat On The Brat

Sweet!!! Cool sounds. You captured it pretty well. Vintage feel, but a bit more modern sounding. I think you done good..... :D

Pretty cool. I'm not a Ramones fan either!

But the song sounds cool. :) Too short, tho. :)

Thanks for listening Dogman and Bigbubba! After listening on a few different systems,I'm thinking that I need some more bottom end on this mix...seems kinda thin to my ears...

I heard the original quite a while ago, don't remember how it goes, but this is cool.
Solid punk rock feel, with good crunchy fast guitars!
Best part of all is that you sound like a brat :p :p Cool sounding vocals.
I do agree you could use more bottom end. I don't hear any bass guitar in there.
Cheers! I should try a punk cover here and there, that's how I started out a long time ago, and those were a ton of fun :D

you should change the guitar tone a bit so the palm muted parts sound different than the non-palm muted parts. call me a huge ramones fan, purist, or whathaveyou, but i'm not a huge fan of the lead guitar squeals.

other than that, good cover!

Watch out, or I'll have to lay my Ramones-cover legacy on'ya.

You guys wanna hear more Ramones covers uploaded to Soundclick? I only have 30.

In 2001 I did an entire CD of Ramones covers,... which is still available for free by PM'ing me off this board.

I'm a Ramones purist, too!

Honestly, I don't think I know what palm-mutes sound like, but I'll vouch for our friend that the Ramones didn't have much in the way of lead guitars. I've read that certain key leads were recorded by other guitarists, I believe some by Ed Stasium, their early co-producer.

I'm a huge Ramones fan and purist. Y'don't do 30 Ramones covers without being a fan.;)

Just jumping in from a non ramones purist's point of view... I think the squeals are cool. I like the way he updates the song in his own way. Just my humble opinion ;)

I did a few Bad Religion covers a while ago, those were fun.

I'll explain my "palm mute" comment; when you rest your picking hand (palm) on the strings it creates a 'chugging' rhythmic sound..

anyways, that's not important, what makes beat on the brat an interesting song, dynamically speaking at least, is the difference in between the 'beat on the brat' and the 'oh yeah' lines (quiet then loud).

lastly, i can appreciate wanting to differentiate your cover from the original, sure, i've done the same thing before; we all have. I'm just not a huge fan of lead guitar in any capacity... :D

i would like to finish on my main point, which was 'good job!'

love,
Rob

Thanks for the feedback!I hear you about the palm mutes....I was using a line6 variax guitar /Les Paul mode, and the thing with the variax's is that its really hard to get that palm mute chugging type sound. They use piezo pickups in order to model so many different instruments with one guitar, and that has been one of the drawbacks many people have commented on...the lack of "chug" on the palm mutes.I also had a feeling that hardcore Ramones fans would not like that little squeal thing..it's just hard for me not to play things like that sometimes as that is just my own style.Gonna retrack the guitar and try for a different sound, and also wanna get some more bottom end in the mix.
Thanks again for listening!

It sounds raw and snotty, just like a Ramones cover should. I like.

You should try mixing it like the Ramones record, with the bass in one speaker and the guitar in the other :D

That's a great idea, and I'm in!!

Ramones Rumble!
Bring it on!!.................. ;)

we make an mp3 posting thread with a common theme and then we talk about how awesome we all are.

or someone makes a backing track and we all show off our guitar skills. And then talk about how awesome we all are.
