sure he did, it goes something like this!! "RAMI RAMI, HE'S OUR MAN!!!"

I still have to send a few of you that CD...I think I deleted all my messages a few days ago, when my mailbox was full, and lost all the addresses of people that wanted me to send a CD.

That's the least of my problems right now. I don't know if any of you know anything about viruses and all that, but my computer is fucked. I can't see certain internet pages, and see others just fine. My control panel is a blank page, but at the bottom corner it says "31 Items"...My WMP doesn't work and when I try to install another one, it doesn't complete the installation.

I tried Formatting, but it says "Windows cannot format because the disk is using some Windows Components" So I can't clear out my disk to re-install M-E. When I just try to install it, nothing happens....

On this site, I can't give rep. When I click on the "scales" it just refreshes the page. If I click on "Quick Reply", it thinks I pressed quote instead. I can't even get a smiley when I click on one.

I ran about 10 different anti-virus programs today, but none of them found a virus...I'm losing it!!!!

RAMI,

I would start with Ad Aware (not Adware). http://www.lavasoft.com/. On the left menu, from Products, select Ad-Aware Personal. This is free. Download it and run it. This will generally pick out any adwares running on your machine. It will also pick out any spyware and so on.

It does sound like a worm or a zombie. Anyhoo, if you have any additional identifying traits that you see on your machine, either post them here or google for them. Either way, you should find some answers.

When you're running anti-virus programs, do you have the latest virus definition files? Latest meaning, files that you download right before starting the scan.

I had an issue with my Windows Media Player also and the re-install behaved the way you described. I found the WMP folder in program files (C:\program files\Windows Media Player in my case) and just deleted everything in there. I went back to MS WMP site and ran install and it installed just fine. :)

As far as formatting, if you just try to format the C:\ drive and that's the drive that is running Windows, it won't let you do that.

If you're just wanting to re-install a fresh new install, you might just boot from the CD. During start up the CD will in some way allow you to push some keys to boot from the CD. Follow that and you should end up at the OS install program. Although, I would be really careful of re-installing. It's not scary, it'll just take a little longer in case you mess up. And that's something you can decide as to when you'll have the kind of time needed for such an undertaking.

Good Luck. :)

Sorry, to whoever's thread I just hijacked. :D

Thanx Bubba. Yeah, I have Ad-Aware, I'll run it again, but I ran it already. as far as re-installing is concerned, it's not opening the exe file. There are certain internet pages that just stay blank, and same thing with a few pages on my computer, like my Control Panel, for some reason. And the worst is that if I was able to go back one day with my System restore, I'd be ok. But, sure enough, that page stays blank too. I removed and re-installed WMP, but it still says "An Internal Error has Occured" or something. So I can't play anything in WMP...I can't get Soundclick's player to open....
My PC is partitioned, so I'm not worried about re-installing on my C Drive because all the good stuff is on my D Drive. I backed up all my music, so I don't really care what happens, but I can't even re-install Windows because it's not letting the exe file start up....Pisses me off

If it's not letting the exe file start, I'm sure that is from within explorer. In other words, it won't let you start the exe from windows.

What happens if you boot from the CD and go into intallation menu and just go from there. It will most probably be DOS like environment (I don't know WinME specifically), and it will even let you format the partition that c: drive sits on.

Hey this guys sounds like he's having a similar problem.
http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/Control-panel-won-t-work-and-more-t74967.html

The guy seems to get his problem fixed by the end of the thread. Might be a long read but worth a shot without having to re-install all the software. :) Besides it will give you a little insight into the mind of Microsoft.

Ah sorry man, I hate when windows just goes corrupt. I used to have to back everything up, go to DOS mode and reformat and reinstall the computer every month it seemed. Once you get the system running I'd recommend having some powerful virus scanner running ALL THE TIME... I have mcaffee virusscan enterprise edition automatically starting up the second this computer boots... needless to say, I haven't had the computer go corrupt in over a year now.

You might want to try going to the uninstall area in the control panel and completely removing "internet explorer" and reinstalling it before reinstalling the entire system. Internet Explorer went corrupt on me once, and that's a big deal. Some of your problems sound similar to what happened to me in that case.

Hey Rami...sorry to hear about your PC troubles!JUst wanted to add that ever since Ive installed the Microsoft Anti-Spyware program,my pc has been running great with no pop-ups or spyware issues...I run Windows XP Pro,not sure what version of windows you use but this might be something that can help. Here is a link:

Microsoft anti-spyware

Thanx Snake....Bubba...I really appreciate that link. Seems the guy has the exact same problem as I do. I'm going trough the same steps as him and hopefully it will work.

Want to hear something funny? I uninstalled Internet Explorer, my ADD/REMOVE programs doesn'y show Internet Explorer any more, which should mean it's gone. But here I am still on the internet, does that make sense?

I'll keep you guys postsed. Thanx again Bubba.

YOu can go to to update your internet explorer here... i believe it "repairs it" and fixes any problems also.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/default.mspx

Overall to keep the computer running, make sure you download all the "critical updates" and "critical security updates" from
windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
it'll scan your computer and tell you excatly what you're missing and need to download. If the computer's already messed up, it might not be worth the time. That's definitely something to think about doing when you have a fresh version up and running though.

Good luck man!

Rami, bummer about the pc. I've never had anything this drastic happen to mine, so no help from me, byt it looks like a few of these guys had some similar problems, so hopefully they can help you get it fixed up. I haven't even had to format a hard drive in a few years, so it would probably take me hours to fumble through that again. Hope you don't have to go that far. Maybe just deleting, then reinstalling a bunch of software will fix the issues.

Good luck dude.
Ed

Woohoo!!! It's fixed. I thought I had removed Internet Exploror, which is why I couldn't figure out how I was still able to get on the internet. But it was Internet Exploror with a bunch of numbers after it...(Still don't know what it is I removed...Yikes)...When I went to remove MICROSOFT INTERNET EXPLORER 6, it gave me an option for "repair" and sure enough it was fine. Thanx alot Bubba, if you hadn't steered me to that page, I wouldn't have even tried that. Thank You!!!

Good to hear you fixed it without reinstalling, that sure is a pain! If you keep a virus scanner running, run the adware stuff enough, and do those security updates from that site I posted above hopefully stuff like that will never happen again :D

Bubba just got some snake luv :)
