RAID and data drives?

I have ordered a hefty computer (core 2 duo, etc). It has a 2x250gb RAID set up. One computer place that I talked to told me it was tricky to set up another drive with a RAID configuration. The seller (TigerDirect) said that as long as I didn't mess with the RAID drives, installing a separate data drive is no problem.

Has anyone had a problem setting up a data drive in addition to a RAID configuration. If so, what are the issues?

Thanks in advance?

Tom

Setting up RAIDs is really not hard, and there are hardly any issues. Tiger and other vendors tend to be a bit too much on the cautious (or alarmist) side, just to cover their ass, because quite frankly they have to cover the nitwits and boneheads clause. :)

One issue with messing with a RAID is that once it's created, and then have put some data on it, if you mess with it's configuration, chances are very good that you'll lose data.

In your case, I am assuming this is a SATA RAID. If you installed another drive on another SATA channel, you'll be fine.

You should be fine. my computer was running raid 0 with 4 HD's all 250GB SATA's, and the first 2 were raid for performance, and the other 2 were regular data, and then I figured that I should raid (1) them too (0/1), and they've been working fine both ways, so you should be ok.
