Anyone with this setup do a benchmark on it. What does HDTach and Echo Reporter say about?

Which card are you using?
Which drives are you using?
What system are you running in on?

My setup:

Iwill KK266R mobo | 0227R Bios | 1G AMD @1.5gig | 2X256 crucial pc133 | 2 Maxtor 30G ATA100 on RAID | RADEON 64M DDR VIVO | LG 8x4x32| SBlivevalue| enermax 365p-ve | Win2K

My atto score:

Thanks for the info. I can't really tell what that test is saying though. I haven't used ATTO before.

What is your sustained data output? MegsPerSecond

I tried both the Adaptec ATA Raid card and the Promise ATA TX2 and the Promise card was much faster. It blew away the Adaptec card.

Why did you get the IWill board? I was thinking of getting a BoiStar board but I can't make up my mind? What should I look for in a Mobo for Audio?

How did you get your Athlon to overclock to 1.5G? Is it stable at that speed? Do I just change my multiplier and leave the core speed at 100?

How do i find out what my sustained data output is ?

I got the iwill board because there are many reviews saying it is a very stable mobo especially when it comes to overclocking..

what to look for in a motherboard for audio?
Stability, compatibility..Find out about the chipsets the motherboard uses..Raid is a good feature if you can afford the 10 or so extra dollars it adds to the price..
Onboard audio isn't necessary if you have or plan on buying a soundcard..

yah I just raised the multiplier 11.5 X 133 = 1530 mhz or something..my motherboard and many others have the award bios which makes it extremly easy to change the multiplier and fsb..
yah its stable..but i have the cpu watercooled..temps are around 38 C..I could air cool it, but it might get noisy with the fan

What cpu do you have ?

Water Cooled

How do you water-cool your CPU? I am running an AMD 1.33 and it runs hotter than a mother ******. I have an A-Bit KG7-R and it works great. I have had great experiences with both A-bit and ASUS. I am afriad to over clock my CPU because of how hot it is running. Thanks

YOu might want to check out the articles over at http://www.overclockers.com
There is alot to learn there on how to lower tempretures..You could improve case airflow, use a better Heatsink fan combo, thermal paste, or even watercool..

Here is the waterblock I made

http://www.overclockers.com/tips494/index02.asp

A basic watercooling setup consists mainly of a waterpump (fish tank one), tubing, waterblock (thing that goes on the cpu), heatercore (like a mini radiator) and sometimes a resevoir..The whole setup cost me about 60 bucks canadian..

here is the ocerclockers.com link to watercooling

Noooooooooooo!

You got me all revved up about water cooling again. I had almost come to my senses but now I'm back to planning a water cooled, overclocked system myself.

Damn!

go go go go !
Water cooling is fun, why are you possibly deciding not too ?

To see the sustained data output of your hard drive, you need a program like ECHO REPORTER or HD TACH. Let me know if you can't find them, I'll get the links for ya.

Echo reporter is a worthless joke. It's sustained test is way too short to be useful; hence the huge numbers it always returns.

Dskbench is pretty good, it writes like 10 large files to the drive, then simulates multi-track-like operations. It's a console app though, which is the only downside. Search for dskbench.exe.

Really I don't see the point of benchmarking drives for audio anymore. I have yet to run into a single problem related to hard drive speed with a single 7200RPM drive on an ATA controller. My processor will max out WAY before the hard drive with start to thrash. But then I don't have a 2Ghz processor either :)

Ya I pretty much say screw it to bench marks now..It's just a bunch of numbers..what matters is what you actually get done with your gear..

Bench marks come in handy when you are trying out new gear. For instance I found that the new ATA100 Raid Adaptec card sucks compared to the TX2 Fasttrack card. I found that there isn't a big difference between 7200 rpm and 5400 rpm ATA 100 drives. I also found that Scsi 68pin is only a little faster than than ultra ATA100.

I got the same results with my Raid 0 setup that you did. I would guess that you are using the FastTrack card also.

I agree about Echo Reporter. It needs an update or something. I get all kinds of wild reading with that program. HdTach, however, is pretty consistant and is the one I use the most.

The reason I was asking in the first place was because of the new system that I am building. I am doing recording for local bands who need a lot of Tracks and Plug-ins. My current system is starting to choke so I have to add non real time effects and mixdown Drum tracks which slows down the mixing process. I am trying to get the mixing process to be as fast and cost efficient as possible. Using a virtual mixing board is already slow enough without other factors adding to the Kaos.

nope im not using the fastTrack card..I'm just using the onboard raid controller on my Iwill kk266-R motherboard..the raid controller/chipset or whatever is AMI
