Hi,
Would love to get some feedback on a new song. Any suggestions on improving the mix, or opinions on the song, lyric, arrangement, etc., would be greatly appreciated.
The song is called Rag, and can be found here:

Thanks very much,

macle-

im still having download issues from your site, it appears. I'd love to hear it, not sure what my issue is.

Wow, this is cool....just as good production/mix wise as the last one I heard from you (fingerprints). The drums on the second verse are too busy....like that song by David Gray. The drums do work well on the chorus though. So I'd say on the second verse maybe slow down the drums? possibly lose the double time? it might be cool. But the song works fine as it is. Just wondering....do you have a CD out? cause this stuff is damn good.

Peace, love, and chicken,
Mike

1:48's my favorite. There's something in that first culmination of the instruments that is quite unique.

You remind me of the World Party dude on speed. heh heh...

I can dig it!

Hi H2H,
I was thinking as I was uploading, shit, this site doesn't work half the time, and the other one I set up seemed to work well, but they went out of business or something. Anyway, sorry about that. Here's a link to a real player version, which ruins the sound a bit, which makes it hard to, uh, hear! Let me know what you think.

Hi Mike,
Thanks a lot! Glad the download worked. I hear what you're saying about the second verse, it is a bit frenetic. Funny you mention David Gray, I was sort of thinking of that. The plan is to definitely get a CD together, but it's slow moving. A little more then half way there. Thanks a lot for checking it out! I really appreciate it.

Hey Kelly,
Right on! Who is that World Party guy, anyway? I can't think of his name.
Thanks very much.

"Incredible" wow..., I get excited sometimes on here when I listen to other artist's work and I know I come across as a "sheeple"?, "ass kisser" whatever the hell, but that's just what it does to me, can't help it, when I hear something great I like to let the artist know how it affects me. This was great.

Hi Leeking,
Thanks! It took quite awhile, one, because I've been working on a bunch of songs at once, doing each thing in stages, and two, because I'm slow! I really appreciate that you think the sound is good, cuz I've really been working hard to try to improve, and that's really what takes so long, redoing things, remixing, trying different EQ, different arrangements, adding parts, taking parts out, etc. And still I want to go back and fix things (those brushes in the second verse, the piano in the solo, the vocal in various places, etc.)

Thanks very much,

Macle

As usual you have produced an excellent song. I eventually managed to get the real player version and save for some obvious high end loss it still sounded pretty prefessional. I've said it before, but i'll say it again, you've got a great voice;) what do you do to get it to sound like that, aside from being able to sing;). I loved the way it burst into life!

Yea, I think ditchin the brushes during the second verse will affect the overall sound.......for the better! I played this for a couple buddies of mine and they all say "is that david gray?".....so.....I'm trying to think of what could be added to fill the brushes place, but I'm coming up blank.....I'll keep thinkin

Peace, love, and chicken,
Mike

Hey Jags, thank you! I've said before, I'm really paranoid about my singing, so that's really good to hear.

Thanks a lot,

Hey Mike,
Is the David Gray thing bad cuz you guys don't like him, or cuz I sort of nicked the brush idea? I'm still sort of torn on whether it's working or not. I actually had a regular drum thing going, that typical boom chuck chucka boom chuck, but I thought that was not really happening, and then I tried just a very straight beat, which I was gonna go with, seemed to work well, before trying the brush thing.

Thanks,
macle
