i know the radio shack mics are mics that you just dont use. But I have a radio shack mic cord is that the same deal?

No!

I'm pretty sure radio shack Mic cords are great. I always here people telling others to pick up their cords from their, I think it's the only thing you can get that's good there...

coo becuase i got a one that came with the radio shack mic i got a long time ago.

Pretty sure, eh? Well, I'm not gonna come down too hard on you, priz but the short answer is, they're not great. For line-level cables, RS is OK, maybe even their instrument cables are decent, but for mic cable, please at least get HOSA. Its no more expensive and I'm sure its better quality. Other cables to look for are BLUE, Mogami, Canare, Gotham, Belden (usually have to make that stuff yourself), etc. You should also have at least one very good mic cable. Like a Monster Studio Pro 1000 or something similar.

Sonusman did some mic cable tests a few months back and Monster cables were the clear winners:

The files aren't up anymore but you can at least read everybody else's conclusions. Somehow I think I may have missed a thread but that's all the searching I care to do for now.

Ummm, no radio shack cable. I bought one and it was shorted outta the package. THATS bad. Similar luck with all pre-made RS cables.
Priz... where did you hear that at? geez...
Oh... I've never had a problem out of thier RCA cables, just everything else.

hmmmm...

mayby it wasn't "radio shack" cables, but I'm sure I heard that you can get good cables at radio shack.

No PRIZ...

You can get "oddball" CONNECTORS at Radio Shack - but cables??? Forget about it - better off with Hosa (and that isn't saying much!)

forget about it

hey. Bruce, did you see the movie donnie brasco?

How do you mean when you say forget about it.

Unfortunately, like 90% of all my cables are radioshack. I would not be sureprised if the more expensive cable is better,

but $100 for 15 feet of cable, I would rather buy a mic.

Buy any cable? Forget it. Make your own. There's a stream at the bottom of my garden where I pan for gold. Then I melt it down and stretch it into wire strands in my shed before twisting it together (I find 52 strands to be the optimum). Then I cover it in rubber which I harvest from my own rubber plant in my hallway (plastic just is not good enough and commercially purchased rubber is not up to the job to be frank).

I just finished recording with this radio shack cord for the first time and all i have to say is RADIO SHACK SUCKS. Im never setting foot in that store again.

Radio Shack Sucks And Hosa does too

Radio Shack Cables short out easily, the only thing good are connectors, as for Hosa I bought 3 Hosa Recording Snakes and 2 of them have shorts in them, and the Hosa Headphone Extender I got Has a Short in it too, Only get Thick Cables, No Thin RS or Hosa Crap.

Okay i knwo this has really nothgin to do with radio shack cables, but has anyone heard of/used digiflex cables, because i have a mic cable made by them and i was wondering how it may size up(it is my only real mic cable)

rs cables

i'm not too particularly fond of radio shack in general, but where else can you get certain connectors/ oddball audio stuff in general? I'd like to know if anyone has other ideas.
i'm about to get an adapter from them: my four track has 1/4" ins and i'm gonna be getting some SM57 and 58s that don't have 1/4" cables. will these adapters do the job? is there a better solution?
thanks

The better solution is forget adpaters - get yourself an external mic pre....

Forget Mics!

Buy a cassette player with a built in microphone! Then hook that up to your RS cables into your recorder, then you'll have the set-up of the next generation.

........I have two RS cables.......they still work.......my free Guitar Center mic took a crap on me last night......back to Radio Shack......

I have made ALL of my cables from digiflex cable and neutrik, never had a prob with it, found it to be quite clean.
