Hi,
Newbie here - I work with people in their homes and want to record our work sessions. So I want something small, portable and affordable but also broadcast quality as I intend to use it for radio eventually - any ideas?? I am in the UK.I will also need to edit it but at first just store it
I have NO KNOWLEDGE of sound equipment so baby language please?
Grateful for any help and directions of where to purchase??

Hi Heather, welcome to the forum.

I am also UK based and have also done radio work (as well as being on the Committee of the Institute of Broadcast Sound).

What do you mean by: "I work with people in their homes and want to record our work sessions."?

It would also be useful to know a budget - "affordable" does not really mean very much. What I call affordable, some people may think expensive and whet they call affordable I may think very cheap. ;)

If it's interview work, the HHB FlashMic is a good choice. It's a microphone with a built-in recorder. You download the files to your computer for editing.

An alternative is the new Nagra SD. This is a small, high quality, flash recorder with built-in microphone. There is an option of using a plug-in cable and a professional reporter mic. like the Sennheiser MD 42. The Nagra SD sells for £499 +VAT I think. The Nagra SD comes with a 2GB SD card and you can either remove and plug this into your computer, or directly download.

Audacity is a free editing program for PC.

I hope this helps.
