wow

Thanks for this thread. It is exactly what I've been looking for. A lot of work went into this and I really appreciate it. Let's keep it at the top. :D:D:D

Amped, I would love to see pics of this place.

Also, Knightfly, the last link that you gave turns up a message "The requested topic does not exist". Can you help?

You realize this thread is from 2003 right? lol, I couldnt believe it when I got the email notification of a reply.... I think theres some pics in here somewhere, might wanna look, if not, let me know and Ill post a few....

yep. 2003. I know. But it's still a good thread and just what I was looking for. However there are no pics of your place. Don't go to too much trouble. I was just curious to see how it turned out. Do you still use it?

Hell yes I use it! All the time..... What about this thread is 'just what youre looking for'? I learned a lot from this thread, mostly what not to do... This thread is most of the reason why my studio turned out to be so successful...

What about this thread is 'just what you're looking for'?

Well...I want to build a building in my backyard for tracking/mixing. There's no extra room in my house, so I'll have to have it out back, which is fine with me. I'd prefer it not be in my house.:) Anyway, I was looking at buying a portable building or shed and was wondering what I was going to have to do to it to make it like I want it. Then I found this thread and now have decided that I can just build it for cheaper and better.

My place doesn't need to be "soundproof". Nor will it need to be as big as yours. I'm thinking about 12' x 24'. Maybe 14' x 24'.

All in all, I'm just glad I found this thread...6 years old or not. :D

and how about those pics???

Do yourself a favor and go as big as you can, 14' x 24' isnt a whole lotta room especialy if you want to use it as a jam room as well as recording like me. Even my 24' x 24' gets cramped when you start shovin all kinds of gear in it. My room was built as a 'portable' type building so the only inspection/permit it needed was for basic framing. Ill try to get you some pics up tomorrow...

It wont let me post pics because of some security token bullshit.... I have them loaded and ready to go, someone wanna lend a hand?

Ok, here ya go....

:eek::eek::eek:

Can I live in it?

Please? :o

Sweet place man! I'm very jealous

:D

"Can I live in it?"

Sure, as long as you're a decent bass player with no hangups, ego or attitude willing to work towards the common interest without whining like a baby or thinking you're Gods gift to musicians... lol... And people say us drummers are assholes!

Nice place. I love it. It looks like you could have some fun in there.

And you're probably right. 14x24 will be a little too small. I'll probably go with 20x24.

How did you end up doing your AC?

Nice pics Amped. It looks like practice will go nice and smooth. How do the neighbors like it?

A/C is a simple 24k btu wall unit, I run it for a while then shut it off while recording, the room is so well built it says cool for quite some time.... The neighbors havent said a word so far, its very quiet on the outside even at full volume, plus it helps that my nearest neighbor is deaf... lol

Wow! Forgot all about this thread!! My my does time fly! Is Knightfly still active on the board?

Is Knightfly still active on the board?
No. I haven't seen him on any of the boards in a long time. The last I heard was his video business was taking off and he had too much to do to keep up with the forums. But....I'M still here..what more do you need?

:p;)

" But....I'M still here..what more do you need?"

Hey there Rick! Glad you're still helping people out here. Don't really need anything, things are moving happily along.... Been renting the studio out to a few people and doing a couple of personal projects recently, nothing complete yet, just can't find the time. One change I made in the room was a new access door, replaced the lesser quality door with a 2" solid core door and man what a difference on the outside.... The door was definately a weak link... Anyway, maybe some of the info in this thread can help other people in a similar situation build their studio the right way with very little guesswork.. I see the last time Steve was here was back in August of 2010, he must be busy, good for him..

I've got the link to this thread saved because it is exactly what I want to do..........eventually. :D

Cool blast from the past. Isn't Knightfly a moderator at John Sayers' site or am I thinking of someone else who used to hang here?
