I have a new VF80 w/ cd burner. Made my first test recordings and noticed a very quiet beeping sound when listening to playback through headphones. Only audible during silent gaps in recorded music....not having learned yet how to burn a cd of my recording, will this beeping show up on the final product CD?
Other then that, this thing is a lot of fun. I'm recording just my solo fingerstyle guitar using MXL603s mics staight into the VF80. Through the phones it sounds quite nice. Will the burned CD sound similar to the sound I hear through the phones? I wonder if a pre-amp is really needed for what I'm doing?
Thanks!

i have the same beeping heard through my head phones, does it come out on recordings? i havent tried yet?

Both of you check to see if the metronome is active on your unit. That's what it sounds like to me.

This isn't the metronome. It may be that you're recording too close to the VF80 and the mics are picking up internal electrical noise. This can happen if you're adding a lot of gain to the mics (makes them VERY sensitive). Get away from the VF80 when recording. If the beeping noise continues, call Matt at Fostex.

Yes, I believe it WILL be on the CD if you hear it now.

Try plugging a guitar directly in to the VF80, WITH NO MIC. Do a test recording. Should be NO beeping at all. If there is, you have a bad unit. If not, then you know the noise is coming through the mic.

If you like the sound through the phones, you don't need a preamp. I think the VF80 preamps are quite nice, but won't always have enough oooomph for some mics (normal for many standalone units).
