Why you gotta be so mean?
have you guys seen that stuff at homedepot called quiet barrier. It's by all the other insulation. Does anyone k or how this would do for a studio? Soundproofing? Thanks

hey don't have it on there website, but I have seen it at a few stores on Missouri.

If this is lead loaded vinyl, it is fantastic for reducing sound levels where thicker insulation cannot be used. It is also very effective for bass as it has a lot of mass for it's thickness.

I used it on my studio doors which were solid core doors, the amount of reduction of noise through the door was quite amazing.

If you studio was in the basement and you had noise from above (or vise versa) by putting this down under the carpet up stairs would reduce noise through the floor including bass.

One word of caution is that if using over a large area check that the weight can be supported.

oh here is a link to what I think you are talking about: http://order.americanmicroinc.com/cgi-bin/americanmicroinc/MLVB220.html

no the stuff I'm talking about is 1/2" thick and is only like $10 for a 4x8 sheet. It is really dense fiberglass but then again I don't really know what undense fiberglass is, or for that matter if it is indeed fiberglass. I can not find any info on it anywere. I was holding someone with more knowledge than me could help. If any one goes to hd any time soon and get a chance look for it, it's a black 4x8 sheet and has green print that says quiet barrier. Thank for trying though!

Depends if you are building from scratch or sound proofing an existing building. This material is designed to build walls to reduce unwanted noise. To completely sound proof you need to do a lot more, however depending on the design this could be incorporated into the initial construction.

It all helps, but you will need more than this.

Blocking through mass, adsorption -as in med and low density fiber glass, and decoupling.

Not sure what their are actually comparing in their 'noise reduction chart- 1/2" of fiber vs 3" of masonry = 30 vs .05? At what? For adsorption? maybe. But masonry, wall board and solid materials would be for blocking sound. Apples to oranges? Makes it look good against 3" fiberglass.
I'm just wingin' it here.
