Hey guys, haven't been around much lately. Just haven't been into recording or even listening to anything lately. I did a bunch of drum tracks for someone else's CD, and I think it took me away from my own stuff for so long, that I just couldn't get back into it.

So, to get myself back into recording, I threw together a cover of a Stones tune yesterday afternoon and finished it up today. Amazing how quickly one can lose their recording "chops" after just a month or 2. I felt like I was almost learning how shit works all over again.

As usual, I just finished tracking and mixing, so my ears might be way out of wack. Let me know how the levels are, mainly, but anything else that you might suggest.

Thanx......

Rami...!
Sorry for not helping more...I´m far from home (returning only next year), and all I have right now are tiny pc speakers without response below let´s say 300hz.
But what I hear "above it" is a balanced mix and killer performance as usual.

Ciro

Damn that bass is awesome.

I think the break was good for you because to me, this is great. I think it's better than your more recent mixes from a few months ago. Maybe the few months off broke some subconscious bad habits that you had gotten into. For real, I didn't hear anything wrong with this mix. Everything is sitting just right to me. Snare sounds crisp, kick is thumping, bass is rumbling, and the guitars and vocals are clean and clear. good job man. :)

Nice tight mix Rami - I'd say it's pretty well a done deal...
I don't think you lost any of your skillz when you took that HR break....;)

:D:cool::D:cool:

Good capture RAMI,
Goo performance too!
The bass sounds great - the bit rate is high so the sample is good too - it doesn't mess with the bass drum either.
Did you learn anything from being recorded by someone else?

Who says you can't get professional studio results at home has never heard yours and Greg's music. Good stuff Rami. I'm glade your back in the game.

Thanx CIRO. Nice to hear from you. How come you're never home??? :D :D :D

Thanx alot Greg. I'm glad the mix is nice. It's my ears that I doubted the most. One second the kik would seem too loud, next second I'm struggling to hear it. Actually, that's probably more my head playing with me than my ears. But taking a break did me good if only because of how excited I was to record bass and guitar again.

Thanx a lot, Ido. I'll let it sit before I touch it again. But I don't know what more I can do with it. I guess time will tell.

Thanx Ray. I wasn't being recorded by someone else. I was doing drum tracks in my studio for someone over the internet, like we've done. But it was about 15 tunes. So I did no writing, minimal mixing (just my drums), and didn't touch the guitar or bass. I felt a bit rusty, which is why I chose a pretty easy cover just to get my chops back.

I'm not sure what you're reffering to about the "sample rate". It seems like you're reffering to the bass, but that wouldn't make sense. If you're reffering to the file of the tune, then yes. On my site, even the streams are 320kps. Good ears, cobber.:D

Thanx, Dodge. I don't know about "professional", but thanx for the compliment, my man.
Cool song Rami! Will you still be my friend?:)
Thanx man. Though I can't take credit for the actual tune. We have to give that Jagger/Richards. We're friends...I just tried to send you some rep, but it didn't let me.

Doesn't sound like you lost anything. Certainly not in your playing. This is thumpy good. Lead vox seem a smidge thin in the face of all that ass in the rhythm section, but that's my taste... You missed a lot of fun while you were gone though...

Hey buddy,

Thanx a lot for the listen and the comments.

I know I missed a lot of good stuff here in the last few months. A couple of Greg, Ray, and Queepy tunes, as well as a couple of yours. Sometimes I just get so out of "music" mode, that I can't even listen to it. It never lasts long, and when I am into it, it's all i think about. So, I think the breaks are healthy.

On my way out to the big New year's Eve gig.

Happy New Year everyone!!!!!

Nice mix, KILLER fucking drums. The sound of the solo guitar is a bit too "put an LP on neck pickup with too much overdrive" for the spirit of the rest of the tones. Nice powerful mix, but maybe a little post production something...can't put my finger on it, but "distance" to get it less in your face.

nice clean mix, polished, and still keeps a bit of the stones raw vibe in there without sounding karaoke...how many years does it take to reach this level and where's the shortcut? ;)

great stuff :)

God damn that bass is sweet. When did you get Mick Jagger to track the vox? Great stuff
Lol! Thanx a lot, Raven. I've always found Jagger pretty easy to imitate (probably because he can't sing either :D )

Thanx Seeker. I'll take into consideration what you said about the solo guitar tone. The funny thing, it's almost the exact opposite of a LP on the neck pick-up...It's actually a Strat on the bridge pick-up. But what I did was turn the "Tone" knob off, to get a throatier tone. I can see how it might not mesh with the rest of the tune. Damn, as a drummer, I find getting the right guitar sound is the most challenging thing for me.

Thanx a lot, KC. I really appreciate the compliment. I've only been recording for a few years, but have played live for over 25. I'm actually surprised when my songs get good comments on the recording aspect of them because I do nothing that complicated. Just try to get the right sounds at the source and hit record.

Thanx a lot for the comments, everyone.....and see you all next year! :D

And as a guitarist, I find it 3 times as hard to do what you bastards do so well on skins:D:D:D Fix that lead tone and your gold.

Well... OK.... but you'd better put out on the next date.

Listened to it a couple of times again. Dude, if I didn't say it before, your vox and harmonies are dead on awesome.

I have no hope that i will ever make it in the music business now! Thats really good.. wish i could learn from you.

Ahhh, got my fix on another Rami tune. Thanks man!! Never heard this one from the stones before.

Hey, so I noticed the crashes (and hi-hats to some extent) are pretty low in the mix. Never noticed it before, but do you do that with all your mixes? You know I'm not a drummer and I usually have the crashes all out in front and annoying everyone. I think this is one of those times where less is more. Just taking notes!!!

peace,
