Quick question on AKG condensor mic.

I've got a battery powered condensor mic.

Will I still need the battery if I'm using a pre amp or mixer with phantom power? Would I damage it using phantom power with the battery ?

The only AKG condensor mic I have used is the c1000s. For that one I never used the battery and phantom power at the same time. I think I remember reading in the manual that it didn't matter if you had the battery in while plugged in.

Have you checked the akg website for a manual?

The safe thing would be to take the battery out. Then you have nothing to worry about.

I have a BG4.1?? that can use battery or phantom power/ It did'nt matter if you used a battery and phantom.

But..... be sure to read your manual..

It won't hurt the AKG C1000S.

True, but if I'd pull the battery if you're going to use phantom. You don't want the battery to leak shit on the inside of the mic.

There is really no excuse for not taking the battery out. How often do you change from phantom to non-phantom? probabaly not that much, and it's not hard to unscrew the 1000s to take the battery out or put it in.

Summary:
Take the battery out when not in use (just like any other electronic mechanism) and put it in only when needed.

Yes they do. Leaky battery is some of the rudist sh**t you can have the pleasure of scraping out.

I once saw a keyboard that someone but batteries in and forgot about putting them in for 3 years (it was always plugged in)

That was NASTY, not to mention the fact that the corrosion eat away the terminals so you can't ever use batteries again.

It won't hurt the AKG C1000S... however, as the others here pointed out... old leaky batteries will damage the AKG C1000S.

The mic is an AKG SE 5E-10, if that means anything.

Quick followup question: the battery is 6V - do I need to worry about the voltage being supplied by the mixer - like some of the mixer specs talk about 48V phantom power ...?

Every condensor mic uses a different voltage. Someone just decided to make a nominal -48 volts dc a standard. I think they all have a type of bleed off circuit and protection of the mic for the extra voltage sent to it.
