Quick question about patching

Is it ideal to use balanced cables to connect my behringer 1604A mixer to a delta 66 SC ? As it is now, I use Monster XLR to XLR for my monitors to the mains of my mixer & unbalanced Monster instrument cables from my board to the 1/2 in's & out's of my delta. Does this mean that I am recording at -10db regardless of my selection of the +4db settings in the delta control panel? Are balanced TRS alway desirable for these types of connections?

I don't know where the misconception comes from...

...but signal level has nothing whatsoever to do with the type of connection.

Pro level (+4dbu) signals can be run thru balanced OR unbalanced lines...... and semi-pro (-10dbv) can also be run via balanced or unbalanced lines.

The gear dictates which gain structure it is designed for (sometimes, it can be selected.) Gear spec will also indicate whether the connections are balanced or not.
There is NO advantage to using balanced lines with gear that is not spec'd for balanced connections.
