I just added a neutrik nysspp patchbay.

When I make a connection and insert the connector completely the connection is not made properly - if I back the connector out ~1/4 inch everything works.

Is the patch bay defective - or is it me:)

I am using balanced 1/4 inch patch cables.
Although some of the ins are unbalnced I was under the impression this would not matter.

I also read a thread where someone postred there was a bad batch of these bay's produced.

Thanks,
Brian

On most patchbays if you have a normalled connection, say mic/line 1 to input 1 on the recorder and you plug something into the top jack it will cut signal to the bottom jack. The reason is you are taking the signal output from the top jack and putting it somewhere else so it would do no good to have the signal continue.

Patchbay configurations come in three flavors:normalled, half-normalled and non-normalled.

Are you familiar with these terms?

Yes

Thanks,

Yes - I am familiar with these terms.

The patchbay shipped with all ports Isolated (using the neutrik manual's parlance) - the normalling jack is in the top rear position. (If rotated this would be a half-normaled configuration)

An unbalanced input is connected to bottom rear connector - (connecting to the top would isolate the top and bottom).

In this config the signal should occur across both top and bottom front connectors when a signal is applied to the bottom rear connector (and it does).

Now I patch from the top front to another front input (also in split config - a monitor is connected to the bottom rear). If I push the connector in completely no sound from monitor - pull th plug out a little viola sound.

Embarrased

I am ashamed to admit it but i do not want anyone to waste any time solving this prob

The rear connectors were not pushed in completely.

My apologies - and thanks jake-owa.

Sorry to waste your time.

No problem, half the time the soulution is a "stupid" thing. I've spent an hour trying to figure out why the damn signal is not making any freaking.....soun.....OHHH THE MUTE BUTTON!

Have fun with your new toy.
