Kind of a recording experiment that somehow became a song. I just got Sonar Platinum and was experimenting with acoustic guitar recording techniques and some of the new tools included in the new program.

Hope you enjoy.

Best,

Sounds really good, man. Guitar sounds full and rich. Maybe can afford to cut a little low mids, like around 200-300hz? Maybe? I'm not sure.

Also, I'd maybe tame the "S"s a bit. They're ok when you're singing softer, but a little sibilent when you sing louder like on "Sssso far divided".

Just nit-picking, it sounds very good.

Thanks Rami! I'd not spent a lot of time on the mixing aspect. I basically slapped it together, fooled a bit with some new tools (I just bought Waves Vocal Rider -- and it. is. killer. $39) and published it. Great suggestions though. I'll go back and fix it in a little. Right now I've got to jump off the rig, get downstairs and get the floors vacuumed or suffer an unhappy girl when she gets back from grocery shopping. :)

Go! Priorities, baby!!!! :D

I was actually experimenting with stereo mic positions with my MXL603s ... and this started with my just noodling as I was recording the differences of various positions. The melody popped into my head and the lyrics springboarded off the "Everlasting Hope" concept that first came to mind.

The whole process was less than a half hour ... which, given my proclivities towards tending to overdo things, is unusual for me. :)

Thanks for the kind words!

Wow. That sounds like you spent quite a bit of time on it!

Really pretty amazing for something that you basically just "threw" together...

I felt that the mix was just a tiny bit bright and or harsh to my ears overall, but the clarity and separation are there as are the performances.

You're right. It is bright. I'll actually tend to that in a little bit. We, like you, are still digging out from the storms.

Yeah, probably disregard what I said about the low-mids. Even though I've had my "new" monitors for almost a year now, I'm still not 100% used to them. I still misinterpret "fullness" for "muddiness".

But I still stand by what I said about the "Sssss"ing.

That's because you're absolutely correct, Rami. It's particularly bad on the word "blindneSSSSS". :)

No low mids issue here. The harmonies are really good. There's a funny sound associated with the finger-picking, though. What is it?

It's the accentuated sound of a plectrum. I posted the song that I was setting up to record over on RP. We got snowed in yesterday, so I had a spare day of doing nothing to get it done.

This was a diversion from that song ... as I was just fooling around with the mic settings to get the guitar sound down ... when the melody (and harmonies) came to me in my head as I was playing.

Very nice track and the second mix sound really good for being a slap together. I look forward to hearing more

Yeah ... it's weird when inspiration catches you off guard while you're concentrating on something else.

Don't ignore it. FWIW, I like this one better than the cigarettes one. I'm just one listener though, I get that, just one opinion. But for me, this is the one with the juice.

That vocal rider is pretty cool, huh?
It does nothing you can't do by hand but it really is a time-saver.

Nice mix - nice vocals and harmonies.
Thanks for sharing. :)

One could also draw envelopes on the track ... but the plug makes it so easy to set and forget!

Thanks bud!

I only listened to the second mix. I thought it sounded pretty good.

Your vocal swirliness is back. I noticed it on the lead vocal. And it's really strong when the backing vocal comes in.

Do you have some kind of room verb on the guitar? I like the way it sounds, but it's a little wet. Early reflections are kind of strong too. Guitar is just a bit boxy. Not bad, but it was noticeable.
