hey, I need to ask a couple questions about studio. I’m a junior right now in high school and I am doing a research project about what we want to do once we get out of high school/college and I personally want to own my own Music Rehearsal studio.

What education, skill and experience is required to run a music rehearsal studio for Entry level / Middle management / Executive level workers.

What are the salaries’s/perks for Entry level / Middle management / Executive level workers.

my teacher wanted me to interview some one about it.. but then she told me we didnt have to but.. with this i have to because theres no where on the internet with information about these 2 questions. I need to know this real quick!

a music rehearsal studio??? you mean one where people just go to practice at....also known as a practice room?

there's no level of skill at all to make a business like that. it's america, you can have any business you want, provided it's legal. whether your business does well or not though, will depend on how business savvy you are. going to school and getting a business degree can definitely help. I don't really know of many rehearsal studios around. there are some recording studios that offer a rehearsal space as well that they rent out to bands, and the cost of that can vary. I've seen them range from $15-25 per hour average. so as far as salary for owning a rehearsal studio....depends on how much business you do minus the cost of expenses. i doubt many rehearsal spaces will have any employees since all that really matters is the place has upkeep and someone manages the space.

yeah i know but.. its hard to put that in my essay

I want a studio though with like live recording aswell and recording to...

Thing is i want to own it so im thinking Business and Marketing / Business Administration

You are at the most basic level a landlord. While no specific level of education is required, certainly some basic accounting skills and property management skills are helpful.

Reasearch space can mean a ratty building that locals bands rent dirt cheap or a relatively nice space that national touring acts use to get ready for a tour.

Most facilities have multiple rooms which are rented on a month to month basis (some may have standard rental contrcts which require deposits and sub-let terms). It is common for deadbeats to fall behind on rent, skip out while owing money and trashing the place (let's face it many musicians are scum bags).

In addition to management of the property (basis maintenance) and collection of the rent (be prepared to be a hard ass, cause you'll hear every lame excuse possible), you need to make sure that you maximize your rental spaces: 100 percent occupany is ideal, but often not realistic - so you would need to know what the minimum occupancy required to pay the bills (mortgage, insurance, maintenance, etc).

While most bands will practise in an out house if the rent is cheap, a facility that has heat, air conditioning, working toilets and "decent" sound treatment
could pull in better "clients", but that also runs up the costs to operate. The ROI (return on investment) can be slim to start with, so you really have to understand what it takes to turn a profit.

A decent understanding of insurance (risk management) is a good idea since you are operating a commercail business involving multiple tenants, etc) liabilty risk: personal injury and property loss (gear is often stolen from practise lofts, etc) is a concern. Without the general liabity insurance you could be sued and lose everything.

as far as staff you could get by on about 6 or so people. you would want a janitor or two, a couple of electrician/sound guys. and a couple of managers. Of course, really everyone would have to do thier part to help out on everything, but I imagine your salaries would be like

2 x 12.oo hour lowlifes hehe
2 x 18.oo hour technical staff/maintainence
1 x 20.oo hpur Manager
1 x 25.oo hour (GM)
2 x 15.oo Security (recommended)

of cours this is my guess for a small starter business.

also you can rent an old building and put up sound proofing and upgrade the wiring.

IF YOU DONT CONSIDER the cost of marketing/advertising your place nobody will come. they are sitting there going DAMN we cant practice, because they dont know about your shop. dont let that happen.

The security is so recommended, people will have expensive gear, alcohol, drugs, ho's and all. Your main client may end up being rappers with attitudes. You need security!!

Have fun.
