Hi folks,
I'm starting a project involving transferring my old analog 4-tracker songs to a DAW track by track where I will remix them and make new masters of them.
I did a similar project five years ago but with my audio tape masters. I was using a 16bit sound card at the time. I now have a 24 bit card.
So my question is regarding the bit depth and sample rate at which to record the individual tracks. I'm leaning toward 24/44.1 after reading this helpful article on the subject:
http://www.tweakheadz.com/16_vs_24_bit_audio.htm
My card can sample all the way up to 192 but here's what the article has to say about 192:
What about the 192khz rate? Ok, let me get you to think of how audio interface manufacturers plan to get you to buy their products. One company comes out with 192 then they all feel they have to or they will lose sales. Its hype in my opinion. If you want to fill up hard drives faster, go ahead and use it. We have debated this long an hard on the forums. In the end, no one can tell the difference.
Agree with this?
Any advice will be gratefully received. Thanks.
Gary
