You can't get there from here.

The mic sounds great because everything else sounds great. There are no shortcuts.

You guys are mean! Won't even help a brutha out. (Well okay, it was funny.) :D

Dude,
He probably records in a well treated room to begin with (which yields better tracks) and then mixes in an even better treated room. Have you seen his studio? What is on the walls? Wall treatment can change the sound dramatically.

Then on top of that, compression is probably his secret weapon. When done well, it can transform meager into amazing. (Er, I meant...it can blo dat shit up.)

Just because you use a $50 mic doesn't mean that the rest of the rig costs less than $10K. (It's not like we run around with $1K tires on our $10K+ cars, at least some of us don't)

Can you phrase that in the form of a question?

um ok well ppl who hekped me thanks....the question is " What else could he be doing, to get an amazing sound with a shitty mic". And the person who responded about the wall treatment, like i said, big name stars have recorded in it, so its a studio that like Timbaland and all the big stars use. as far as compression, doesnt that come after your done recording, or while. I do it after, because even before we were completely finished it sounded amazing. spo again the question is...What else could he be doing, to get an amazing sound with a shitty mic".

----P.S.- hey ass fucks my spelling mistakes are because of health problem, my fingers have calcium deposits inside and are hard and VERY swollen, so its hard to type, and it was caused by a medical mistake by a company. Problem called NSF. ANd i didnt know i was having a grammar test, but if you would like u could call the publishing company that im writing a book with about the last 6 yrs being in and out of the hospital, and having 2 kidney transplant, then please by all means do they so can laugh and call u a fuck tard. Im done and please dont be a Internet Gangster and talk shit and threaten me.
K bye

If you already know this producer and have worked with him, perhaps he's the one to answer your questions. The rest of us can only speculate.

Peace,

Joel

you didn't include a phone number.

room acoustics, preamps, console, monitors, eq, effects, and a better overall knowledge of the trade and better ears than many of us have. Or he wasn't really using that mic, OR Lil fLip, paul wall mike jone chamillioanire, 50 cent, and gunit, ker hilson, day 26, fat joe, and snoop dogg have a better voice than the two bit artists you're recording.

All just possibilities though. Does it really matter how he is getting that mic to work for him? Are you really wanting to know what you can do to get better results from that particular mic?

FWIW the V63m is an extremely under rated mic, very quiet, accurate and versatile. He may also be using top quality cables, mic pre, room treatment & interface. Don't discount the skill and knowledge of the engineer & producer.

I already said all that.

I already said all that.

You missed the cables.

All my recordings used to suck. Then I switched cables. Now some of 'em don't suck so hard. Mostly the ones that use cables.

The ones where I don't use any cables still suck. They're like, real quiet or something...

EDIT: (For the n00bs--lack of smilies notwithstanding, it was all sarcasm. Worry about EVERYTHING else before your cables!)

I hear ya. I'm thinking about going completely wireless. I just don't know how to do that and be oxygen free at the same time.
