Carvin makes a fine product. I don't think they are particularly special, but I can't say anything bad about them.

Carvin makes EXCELLENT basses and guitars.
I've owned Carvin guitars since 1981 and I will not revert to any other brand. I've put them up against instruments that cost twice as much and they have not been able to come close in playability, tone and apearance.
