question regarding monitors and a computer

hi there. just a quick question. i was wondering how i would go about conecting some nearfield monitors to a PC. how does this work.?
forgive me if this question is stupid...just curious as to how this would work. would they just plug in to the soundcard?

Are they active? But yeah, just connect them directly to your soundcard stereo output.

My actives do not have level controls on them so I have to make sure I have the volume down in my application first...
