Hi All,

I'm a newb and have this site pretty awesome. I am new to the home recoding thing and have a question on the Shure 545 and 55S or SH(?). Bear with me this is my first post:

I am mainly trying to get and old greasy 50's rock and roll recording and mid 60's garage rock recordings/sound. So I was thinking of getting an old Shure 55SH especially reading one of those sound mags that had an article on Daptone records. While looking on EBAY I see alot of 55's that say "untested" or "not sure if it works". I'm think ing to myself I shouldnt trust these types of sellers right? If do get a bum one are this mics easy to fix? Is this mic worth the dough or is there a good modern equivilant?

Re: the 545; i recently found out that I bought one of those conterfeit sm57. Bummer! So instead of looking for a new one I was checking out these 545's. Being new recording i was wondering what the difference between hi and low impedence and how they are switchable on the 545. I read some info that there is a mod required or does it depend on the position you plug mic cord pins in? Is this mic really better and more versatile than a 57?

Do I even need vintage mics to get the vintage sound I want? I figure it would hurt right?

Oh in case you wondering, I pretty much have budget recording gear: Tascam 424
Art Stereo tube pre
fake ass sm57
Nady tube mic

Thanks in advance,
Meej
