I use Cubasis VST 4.0 to record rhythm guitar tracks on my PC. For practice, I like to play the rhythm tracks back and use my guitar to play leads over them (without recording them).

I am currently able to do this by running a line from the output of my M-Audio Audiophile 2496 soundcard to my Mesa Boogie amp. The problem I have is that my amp takes up a lot of space and doesn't accomodate a headset.

Can anyone recommend a solution which won't take up so much space and will allow me to play over pre-recorded tracks with and without a headset?

Thanks!

You could try downloading the FREE Amplitube Uno guitar amp simulator.

Amplitube Uno

All you do is plug your guitar into the interface and then load up Amplitube and play away. It should still work if you minimize it (it is not a plugin, it is stand-alone software)and then playback your prerecorded tracks with Cubasis; I've done it (albeit with 3.0 instead of 4.0) but I don't see why it wouldn't work with your setup. If it were me, I would just stick with the Mesa, but to conserve space this should work well, even though the Amplitube may not be the sound you're looking for exactly.
