Dililttante.
So I recently purchased new KRK V4 monitors and a couple of new mics and am looking forward to recording with them. I've run into a snag with my new setup though when recording multiple tracks. I'm running mic into mixer into PCI card and from the card out to the monitors, but when I want to listen to a recorded track on headphones and record a new track simultaneously I hit a roadblock. My headphones are plugged into the mixer so shouldn't I be running the output of the card back into the mixer via another input? When I do, predictably, I get a horrible building feedback loop (makes sense -- it's a loop!). But how else do I listen to the recorded tracks on the headphones? I have only the PCI card as an interface and it's limited to two ins and two outs, so it's either going to the monitors or back to the mixer. I'm confused. For what's worth it's a Behringer UB1202 12-channel mixer and a M-Audio Delta 2496 card. Maybe this is really obvious and I'm just missing it. Any help would be appreciated.

I had that problem with Cakewalk 9. When I upgraded to SONAR I was able to use the ASIO driver mode. I think that is what solved it for me.

But I got into the habit routing my soundcard's output to my mixer and monitoring everything there. In fact I only recently discovered that I don't have to.

When using my upstair comp for mixing/monitoring & occasional OD's I have an headphone extension/adaptor cable out of the soundcard. It then hangs by the monitor. I plug h/phones or line to the monitor amp, (I use an old stereo amp & bookshelf speakers for this comp.), into the hanging end of that cable depending on what I want to do.
Are they powered monitors? If Y you can just turn 'em off.
I happily use cakewalk pro audio 9. The main rig downstairs has an INCA 8 I/Ocard with a break out box that'll easily handle stereo out & 2 sets of h/phones using cake 9 again.

Once again...I answered my own question. Figured it out. :)
