So this is going to sound stupid, because I am new to attempting to record to my PC. I have a little behringer UB1202 mixer that I want to use to record guitar/bass/vocal tracks to the PC.

I was looking into getting one of those Edirol UA-1X things that is basically and RCA in/out to USB but then I was thinking, is that really going to work?

Should I just bite the bullet and get a GINA instead? The mixer has 4 mic pres with phantom power so I can mic up a drum kit...but if I just use the stereo outs from the mixer it will record one stereo track to the PC and I won't be able to mix it with other parts.

As I stated above, I am new to this so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would go for a soundcard with 4 or more inputs....

If your mixer has direct outs or inserts on the 4 preamped channels you can use those instead of the Stereo Outs.
You would also need a 4 input card like the M Audio Delta 44 to get each channel onto its own track

Perfect!

I was looking at the delta 44 after reading a bunch of other threads here. This board is awesome! thank you for the help.

I might need to upgrade my mixer...the Behringer does not have direct outs for the 4 channels with mix pres from what I can tell. I will have to check though...we were using it for a vocal mixer at the rehearsal space so I never really paid attention to the outs other than stereo.
