Hey all,

Imma say straight up that im new to this all.. (you would have known anyways half way into this post ;) )

But im a bassist thats starting to play keys and get into this whole recording thing... As most of the people around im looking into turning my home pc. (dell dimension) into a recording solution. Now i want it to be as CLEAN as possible.. Im basically looking into as much Software as i can. As with all the other newbies.. i was looking into m-audio products for my fix.. you know the audiophile with a cheap midi controller keyboard to get me on my way.. But now that i have further studied whats around, i think its wiser to get something a little better so ill be happier in the long run.. Im looking into programming drums myself..And recording my own bass playing to lay the foundation... and then using a midi controller to add horns and moog sounds, or anyother weird sounds... Basically im trying to write my own music.. Anything from Hip Hop to soul to alternative to chillout! So i really want to get something to record that i can be proud of and will last awhile... (im sorry for the rant)

Lately i have been seeing this digital mixers/audio interfaces and i have not read a whole lot about em'. i am not sure if those replace all that other stuff.. just dont quite get it.. they are way mor expensive than the maudio stuff i was talking about before... the two i have seen thus far were the Yamaha ox1 (love the way that looks) and the Onyx line of mixers from Mackie.. Anyone that knows something about these things i would be mad happy if you could hit me up with more info..

this post is probably very incohesive and all but i am at work, and shouldnt be on the forums in the first place. :D

And for those that have heard this question a thousand times.. im really sorry.. but i would really appreciate your help and i know you guys know your stuff!

Thanks!

Michael

Just saw the Digi 002... Damn! That thing is beautiful!!!
Is that only compatible with Protools???

What about the Tascam 1082.. Not to much info on these forums about them??

come on guys... cant be that no one has experience with the tascam 1082 or the O1x from yamaha... help me out. Please??

I'm an o1 fan myself. With the optional expansion slots completely filled, I use mine for studio and live gigs (as a backup second line). Tascam hasn't quite caught up with the advancements that other companies are making in the recording field. If you aren't going to record live drums, an M-box and Command 8 combo isn't a bad idea either.
