Question: Good Sound Effects Hardware

Hello,

I am wanting to create some sound effects and am not sure what kind of hardware I will need to this at all. Right now I have a JP-8000 keyboard. What other stuff would you guys recommend to make those really nice sound effects you hear from THX and them in films? Any opinions on software would also be useful.

Really, there is no end to the stuff you might need to make sound effects. But lots of sound effects today are done by micing sounds and then mangling them in different digital softwares, so a good 'puter would be a good start.
