someone wants to sell me a Taylor 314 CE for 500 bucks, its in pretty good condition except the truss rod needs to be adjusted and its got a couple of tiny scratches on the front. Should I buy it?

That sounds like a pretty good deal (from a private party) if it comes with the original case. I think I've seen them go for $700 - $900 used at places like Buffalo Brothers and 12th Fret, etc. depending on condition.

yeah I'd agree that sounds pretty good. .I'd buy one if i had the money.....or just spend it on beer...or maybe recording equipment

475 dollars!!! Make sure the neck isnt warped from sitting in a hot car and such. Visit taylors websight and look for documents on judging the health of a guitar. I love my taylor.
