Hi guys

Do any of you have the UAD-1 (old PCI classic one) installed on a motherboard with the nVidia nForce 500 chipset for the AMD AM2 socket processors? Any issues?

The reason I ask is because the UA site lists a known problem with the dual-core AMD processors and the nForce4 chipsets, and I am led to believe that the nForce 500 is a reworked version of the nForce4 for the AM2 sockets.

Any insight from first hand experiences would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Update from UA:

No, the UAD chipset incompatibility does not extend to the nForce 500 chipset.
The known official UAD pci card incompatibility relates only to the nForce 3 and 4 chipset.

I guess that settles it then!

Mine has been wroking perfectly. It is the original Mackie one, but the chipset I am using is the Nforce 570 SLI mcp chipset. I am using an AM2 socketed board though. Prior to that I had another AM2 board, and before that I had a board with an Nforce 4 chipset. My UAD had no problems on any of them.

Thanks for the reply xstatic. I decided to return the nForce 500 board and get a nForce 550 instead as it has a couple of other niceties over the one I purchased, plus 4 PCI slots rather than 3, which was going to be a pain as one of my PCI cards is a bit on the wide side so fitting was going to be an issue...

So I've been pricing out some components to completely overhaul my system, and currently I am coming to around $1,200, which is pretty good considering a pre-built system with similar specs would be around $3,000 if not more.

These UAD cards worth getting? I'm seriously thinking about getting the ultra pak I believe, but at 1100 bones, I better be DAMNED sure that those plugins will rock my boxorz, ya know?

Check their site, they have demo vids and wave files of a lot of the plugs

I for one am happy with mine. On top of the "free" included plugs I have:-

Cambridge EQ
Dreamverb
Pultec Pro EQ
LA2A
Precision Limiter
Plate 140
Precision EQ
Dimension D
Precision Multiband compressor

Of course my recording and mixing skills suck, so to some extent I'm trying to polish turds..... but then I like my turds nice and shiney :D

A lot of people on the UAD forum seem to swear by the Neve plugs, but I've never tried any of them, saving the demos to check if/when I decide to get them.

One thing to take note of, if you only get 1 card you will almost certainly be running out of UAD CPU and having to pick and choose what you use where, especially if you record at 96k

They are FANTASTIC plugins, but just one piece of the puzzle - doubt they will roxor yur boxorz.

Start with the Flexi Pak which comes with a $500 voucher, and you can pick up the specials UA put out every couple of months.

Get it here www.jrrshop.com and they'll knock 10% off the list

Well, I am so happy with mine that in fact I'm thinking of getting the PCIe version as well, and double the capacity.

been using mine for about 4 months now. Got it bargain basement on eBay with the Pultec Prow thrown in for good measue. Just bought the LA2A last weekend.

I'm loving the plugs but probably wont buy any more till I purchase a secong card to spread the load.
