I have a few questions about "Effect Processors"

1.What are effect processors?
2.Can you plug them in and hook it up with a microphone?
3.Can you sing threw it and produce thoughs awesome effects for vocalist?

If you get a high end vocal processor then yes...pro vocal effects
the units that are $100-$300 dont impress me much
then theres also guitar processors, some of which are excellent and some are cheezy
then you have compressors, limiters, reverbs, chorus, etc...

So your saying don't get any effect processors that are around the range of $100-$300 dollars. Well, I'm kind of on a tight budget. I only have $130 dollars and im looking for one of these "Musical Signal Processors" that make human voices, subharmonics, or that has different effects in it when a person sings. Just for begineers it doesn't matter to me on what to get "Effects Processors or Microphone Preamps" as long it has those cool effects that lets you sing through them. What you prefer for me i think will do find?

1.What are effect processors?
  • Specialized boxes to improve or modify the signal chain
2.Can you plug them in and hook it up with a microphone?
  • An example of a signal chain with 'effects processors' might look like this...
.........Large compressor microphone to FMR Real Nice Preamp to FMR Real Nice Compressor to Kurzweil Rumour to recording media (DAW, tape, etc.).

3.Can you sing threw it and produce thoughs awesome effects for vocalist?
  • There are a LOT of effects processors for vocals. Some will automatically try to correct your voice if you are off-key, some will add reverb to make it sound like you're performing at Carnegie Hall.

The sky's the limit, and so is the cost! However, there may be hope on the horizon for 'po boys like you and me.

It should be noted that you will generally not get very good results plugging a microphone straight into an effect box! In general, compressors are put on a TRS thru the mixer insert and the FX are either routed out and back to the mixer on another channel, to an aux or a buss.

Plugging inline sounds DREADFUL in my opinion. Especially if you are going from mic level (RNC preamp) to line level (99% of FX boxes).

Just a warning. You gotta hook stuff up right.
