Question about Yamaha MT8X

Hello,

I just purchased a Yamaha MT8X recorder. I am curious if there is a specific type of audio cassette I am suppose to use to record. While trying to figure out how to get sound out of my recorder, I noticed the music was playing ultra fast, there is a pitch controller on it but it didnt seem to help even if I lowered it all the way. So is there a specific type of tape I should be using so the music is not playing at a high rate of speed? Thanks!

Was it something you recorded on this machine or something already prerecorded?These machines operate at a higher speed so the sound quality is supposed to be better at higher speeds.If you record something on this machine at this speed and play it back at same speed it will sound normal.They still have the manual download on the yamaha website.Also I don't think the type of tape matters,but better quality tape always is best to use anyway.
 
Yeah it was something pre-recorded. I have 90 Minute Maxell tapes, thats probably the problem. What if I use one of these tapes to record on the Yamaha, maybe the playback will be normal or something?

Yes,those will work good.Try to record something and then playback,you will see what I mean.I used to have one of these recorders.
 
Turns out the playback was at normal speed. Now I am running into recording problems, but im slowly learning to use this piece of equipment!

Tape...

You'll need a High Bias/Cro2/Chrome cassette, such as Maxell XLII, TDK SA or SAX, plus some other brands available on closeout.

See www.totalmedia.com for US supplies of high bias cassettes, sorry no help for Icon/Non-US. Currently totalmedia has Fuji high bias cassettes on clearance.
