Hi. Its been a year since I started with home recording and did manage to land a few gigs. I currently use Soundforge Pro 10 audio editing software, the Portabooth Pro for sound isolation and the MXL .009 USB mic.
Now,, this mic has following features:

32mm/1.26 in. pressure gradient capsule
• 6 micron gold-sputtered diaphragm
• 114 dB dynamic range
• USB 1.1 and 2.0 compatible
• Analog gain control before the A/D
• Built-in headphone amplifier
• Zero latency monitoring
• Mix control between the live mic and the computer playback
• Bit depths available: 16 and 24
• Sample rates available: 44.1kHz, 48kHz, 96kHz

My question is whether I need a preamp with this mic for better audio output? Although, the website says that the mic does not require a preamp). Can a pramp be utilized nonetheless for a usb mic?? Pls advise. Thanks!

No. A preamp goes in the analogue part of the chain between the the mic and the computer interface (A to D converter). Since yours is a USB microphone, the preamp stage is built in.
