Hi Everyone,

I have been looking at getting a Motu Ultralite but i have some questions about it and the Cue Mix software.

First off, if i am just monitoring through my DAW software, not using the Cuemix, do you know if the headphone output is a mirror of what is being sent to the monitors? When i used to have a Mbox, i would just route the output from Pro Tools to the analog 1-2 outs on the Mbox, which were the monitor outs. Even if i didnt have my monitors on or plugged in i would still hear this signal from the headphone output. Do you know if the Motu Ultralite functions the same way? I cant imagine why it wouldnt, as i would think people would want to hear the master outs from their DAW thru the headphones.

Second, the way i understand it with the Cue Mix software is that you can route any of the inputs to any four pairs of stereo outs, which includes the headphone and monitor outs. So just considering the analog outs you have a pair for the headphones, a pair of outs for the monitors, and then four pairs of analog outs. So say i had a four piece band i wanted to record, and they each needed a different headphone mix, plus i wanted to listen to the whole thing thru the phone outputs. Would this be possible? The headphone outputs would take up one pair of outputs in the Cue Mix, leaving three other pair of outputs, which would leave one person without an output through the cuemix software. Is this the way it works? If so that seems kind of dumb, why limit the capability of the unit through the included software. Of course, if i can just monitor the whole thing through the headphones via the DAW, and then dedicate the four pairs of analog outs to the cuemix software for the recording artists, then i guess that would work.

hope that makes sense.

the answer.

it depends what software you are using. it is only a miror if you set it to be. this is simple go in to cuemix and disable all the out puts on all 4 busses then go in to your daw software and set the out put to the head phone jack. if you want to run monitors and head phones its the same, disable all the busses, and open the MOTU audio set up icon, route your daw to the monitor out puts and have the headphone out set to monitor outs and that should miror it.

yes you can have 4 seperate head phone mixes and the master mix.
the master mix is your daw mix that is going to the monitor outs. if you noticied the faders in cuemix dont aply to your daw level only the gain does so you can shut the faders all off and the signal still comes through. with this being said you can use the busses as you lie by setting the outs to what ever you want then mixing with the faders for that out. and the daw master mix becomes the master/5th mix
