question about studio musicians

Ok... I have a question about the payment of studio musicians. I have a client who wants to have a female backing vocal on one of his tracks. I happen to know quite a few talented singers who are willing to do this. My question is, do I get a cut from the "X" amount of dollars that I am charging the client for the backing tracks? Or would the studio musician get all of it? Would I be selfish and greedy if I took a cut? Thanks for any feedback!
 
I have found that if the studio has a pool of talent which the studio can arrange to hire for a client, it is not uncommon for the studio to charge some administration fee.

In business in general it is common to charge a 10-15% mark-up for contractor services, in particular if you hire the contractor, pay the contractor, etc. A good singer will normally look for about $100 - $200 for a session (assuming the session doesn't drag on for hours)so you can do the math.

Naturally if your client thinks you're taking advantage of the situation your reputation is at risk, so use due discretion.
 
I don't charge clients extra for studio musicians but charge for the time I'm spending in the studio with them.
How ever I include the price in producing fees and it is in my first proposel and don't get payed every time a musician comes.

Here we pay Studio musicians by a Union fee per session which is a 3 hour session.
 
wow! union scale huh?

In Los Angeles, they do all day sessions for two slices of pizza and a warm can of bad beer!
 
Session rate plus union wages

Here it sucks. We have to pay the session rates as well as the union rates. Musicians are a lucky lot here.
