Question about sound card?

Hey everyone, i'm getting a basic set up going, and on my laptop, Whenever I plug anything from my computer to my amp, I get horrible static sounds.

Ipods, my older laptop, and things like that sound fine, but its horrible with my laptop.

The audio drivers are all installed and up to date?

any ideas?

I've been thinking of an external sound card, and if i went that way, i would need something that has speaker outputs to my amps, and a mic in, and possibly another input for guitars or something like that.

ALL built-in soundcards have about 40cents worth of parts, with horrible drivers.
They're made for beeps, boops and light gaming,not music production.
