Well My Main ? is about getting a pre-amp ive been reading alot on this forum about them. and from what i hear there a must.

Heres My Question

My Setup goes like this MICROPHONE > MIXER > SOUNDCARD
very simple setup cuz all i do is record vocals.

say i were to get a Pre-amp chould i just eliminate my mixer and just have it

MICROPHONE > PRE-AMP > SOUNDCARD

What whould be the benifits of this.

i have been looking at a M Audio Audio Buddy.
and my mic is a RODE NTK. Thanks

That would be a great setup. Conventional wisdom in recording is the shortest (least amount of circuitry) path to tape. When using a mixer channel for a mic preamp as long as you're using a direct out from the channel strip, it's not such a bad thing. But generally speaking, a stand alone mic pre will out perform the preamps in a mixer (unless you have a Neve or an API:D ).

1... Yes.
2... You'd have the preamp you want.

I'd save a little longer and try and get the DMP3. I think it's worth the extra money. You should be able to get one for less than $150.
