in audition 2.0, when i get ready to mix my track down to a single stereo track, do i need to set it to mix it down to 16bit at that point? since i'm going to be sending it to cd after the mastering process, i know it will eventually need to be saved as a 16 bit wav, but should it be 16 bit when i start the mastering process?

Ideal situation would be to sav it in 24bit or 32bit for mastering. Hand off data files to the Mastering Engineer, and he'll dither down to 16 bit for the Red Book Master.

No, I wouldn't reduce the resolution until the bitter end. Audition will perform this automatically when you burn it to audio CD. You will get better results if you master while still in higher bit depth.

alright, thanks a lot to you all. so, in that case i should be burning the songs to cd in auditions cd burner then right. i knew that it would automatically set the bit rate to 16 bit there, i was just wondering about how i go about saving the track to my computer in 16 bit from the edit view when i'm working with 32 bit. is that possible?

While you have your file in edit view, go to edit and choose Convert Sample type (F11).
