Question about midi / microkorg / micron

I was about to buy a microkorg or a micron when I realized I could do the same thing a lot cheaper with just a midi keyboard interfaced with my laptop and some software. Am I right?


If so, is there any USB/midi keyboards out there you guys recommend? I've used M-Audio products, but thats the only brand I'm familiar with.

If I'm wrong, which should I get, the microkorg or the micron, or neither?
