Question about memory?

Hey,
I have just finished building my first computer. It will power up but does not have any video output. In my motherboard manual it says that if there is a problem with the video then you will hear one long beep followed by two short beeps. If you hear any other combinations of beeps then it is probably a memory problem. I hear 4 beeps in a row every time I try and boot it up. What could be my problem? Could the DDR ram not be recognized by the bios? Could it be the brand of ram is not compatible with my motherboard? Please help because I really don't know what the problem could be?

The equipment is:
Tyan MP Motherboard w/ dual AMD 1.0ghz
Geforce 2 32mb AGP Video
2 sticks of 512mb DDR PC2100

No, it won't display anything on the monitor. Everything turns on but that is it. It beeps 4 times then just idles.
 
Have you tried one stick of memory at a time?

Unplug everything, hard drives etc.

Leaving just memory, video card, cpu.

Make sure the ram is seated well, takes a bit of force, not an insane amount, but a bit. Watch the pins in the socket where you install the DDR, they should 'move' a bit, clips should lock solid.
 
Hope your memory slot can't handle 512mb stick, could you borrow something like a 256mbDDR and try booting with it?
 
I don't know about your board, but mine won't accept generic RAM, you don't mention if your RAM is generic or not but you might want to look into it.
 
I just put together a couple of systems during the past week and encountered the same problem problem with the RAM being undetectable. My fix was as simple as the mounting of the board to the case. I forgot to put the mounting screws under the board to give separation from the case. I know that this is really basic, but after mounting correctly, everything was fine. I also made sure that I put the washers in between the board and the screws on top. Sorry, if this is "too" basic, but that's my 2 cents. Good luck.
 
When I built my first comp a while ago I had the same problem. In my case, I hadn't seated the RAM modules cleanly. I was so worried about breaking them or the slot that I wasn't really pushing them down. Might want to check, make sure you're getting a solid "click" (if you are using a modern board, the levers should come up and lock).
