where do producers using computer setups get the clips from old songs (soul, gospel, r&b, etc) that are used in hip-hop beats today? i assume that there is somewhere to find them acapella or if not possibly with my setup there is a way that i can create them from .mp3's or whatever....i really need help because i can't ever come up with good hooks. maybe im wrong maybe all these hooks are only made by producers that use external gear or turntables with old vinyl or whatnot...i'm sorry if this is the wrong place to post this question but its really a question that can only be answered by hip-hop producers. My setup is as follows:
Reason 2.5
Cubase SX
Fruity Loops 4 Creative Edition
CASIO casiotone mt-600(piece of shit i only use it as a MIDI controller)

one more question, does Windows XP support more than one monitor?

There's no easy way, I'm afraid. If you want vocal hooks, you can do worse than check your local indie record stores - they usually have accapella sections, or failing that, you can just have a look through the 12s and see which ones have 'pellas on them (hip-hop and R&B 12s quite often have them). Other than that, it's the boring route: trawling your record collection for anything useable - intros and breakdowns where there's not much instrumentation.

If you find a vocal sample with a bit of bass or some quiet, unintrusive drums behind it, you can sometimes filter out the unwanted parts in a sound editor, or at least make them quiet enough not to come through the mix.

One last trick, but a goodie: in the early days of stereo, a lot of producers would pan individual instruments most of the way to the right or left. Which means that by listening to individual channels on stereo recordings you can sometimes find a sample of the instrument you want in near-isolation.

Also, if you're prepared to take a risk now and again, another good source for samples is the bargain bin - buy cheap CDs, things you wouldn't normally think of sampling. You can be hit with some happy surprises that way. You can sometimes find diamonds in dogshit

Ooh, one last thing - I'd recommend getting yourself an editor. Cool Edit is quite popular. I use Soundforge - my version's years old, but it does the trick.

Not sure about the monitor thing

yes, xp supports multiple monitors....as long as your video card has multiple outs
