How do u put the loops together to make a song?

to create the song, Theres a button just under the 'Pattern" labeled "song" you would then need to fill in the step sheet placing the instrumeents where you want them. I would recommend putting every instrument on it's own pattern. It makes it sound so much better. I'm not sure which version you have but after you made the song how you wanted it, render it to a wave file.

Using the piano roll, how do I make the notes sound longer? I try stretching the bar but the note still sound the same to me.

I believe some instruments can't sustain on the piano roll.

I also have a question about FL Studio. Is there anyway I can lock patterns into the squares on the playlist editor instead of having to move them to fit properly?

You need to edit the sound itself to make it longer. A string or organ sound, for example, will sustain for as long as you hold the note but a piano sound has a shorter duration.Click on the name of the sound. A box will pop up labeled 'channel settings' and will have 'SMP INS MISC FUNC' across the top. The length of the sound can be changed under the 'INS' tab.

oh yeah i tried that but it wouldn't work with the instrument i was tryin to use.I guess stu_hig is right, some instruments can't sustain on the piano roll.

Go back and try it again. I do it all the time.

You need to be willing to go into the little funny looking graph-type things, and start playing around while a part is playing soloed on the instrument you're adjusting.

On the playlist editor when you are adding your patterns, you know the way they go wherever you click on and you have to adjust them to sound right and in time? Is there a way to lock the patterns on the squares on the playlist editor so you don't have to move them?

It sounds like you're talking about some kind of quanizing also known as time correction. If you put together patterns that match in the playlist editor than you should be able to combine them with no problem in the song editor.

But I'm sure that doesn't answer what you were asking --- maybe put your question in different words and I'll get you better...

I thought about it overnight, and what you're missing is probably saving your work. Use the 'save' or 'save as' commands under the file menu --- then when you open the project again the patterns will be stuck to the grid just as you last left them.

Use 'save as' when you do your first save to give the project or song a name and from then on you can use 'save'.

Say if I clicked to add a pattern on the playlist editor. You know they way the pattern goes to wherever you click? Say if I click sort of near a square is there a way that the pattern can be automatically locked into that square?

ssscientist, I think that Stu_Hig is inquiring about some sort of "snap-to" function on the FLP Playlist Pane......

At the top of the Play List pane there is a TOOLBAR, there are seven (7) buttons on that toolbar. Make sure that you have the 2nd button from the right pressed (not the 3rd buttion from the right).

The 2nd button is the DRAW button (which has an automatic SNAP-TO [lock] function). The 3rd button is the PAINT button (which doesn't, form what I understand, use the SNAP_TO [lock] function).
