Question about EQing drums

Most of eqing toms starts with having properly tuned toms to begin with, played by a quality player...but we all know that. :) :) If some low mid cut doesn't help (too much ring, out of tune, etc), strip the silence out and use sound replacer or drumagog to beef them up. Quicker & sounds far better. EQ cannot make a crappy tom sound like a great one. ;)

Do you like your kick drum resonating that much? I've always liked a more deadened kick, but to each his own I suppose... It just sounds too high for a kick to me.

Also, the ringing snare can get outta control if it's alone in the mix...But again, I like crisp cracks, and not much afterwards...I normally gate my drums anyways.

Sounds good though

I have a D112 through my porthole about 1-2" from the fronthead, maybe 3" off-center. I use a two ply front head, but no additional muffling, I do have a blanket inside the shell to absorb the reverberation that was going on....man that was an intense washing machine. I've never been a fan of additional muffling.

Like I said, it's more preference then anything.

I like a "thud" and not a "booooooooom".....ya dig? LOL:D

BTW this recipe works really will with all Bass drums, Gretch, Yamaha, Sonor, 22", 24", single head, double head, double heads with hole cut out in the back head, with wooden beaters, felt beaters, really... it's a good recipe. It even works well with Linn and Roland electronic drums.

And that's just the kick. Imagine how well the rest of the stuff works.

Oh no, I didn't forget about the micing options ;)

I believe he said those were "starting points" and he adjusts from there.
